Prevention
Eating disorders can be related to genetics, psychological or emotional health such as low self-esteem, problematic relationships, impulsive behaviors and perfectionism.
There are some ways to help prevent healthy eating behaviors that can be implemented by talking to children about the risks of making unhealthy food choices, seeking help through a specialist to detect these disorders early, parents should avoid dieting and help reinforce a healthy body image in children.
Treatment
Treatment varies depending on the disorder the patient has. A group of specialists including physicians, mental health professionals and nutritionists are in charge of treating these cases. Doctors prescribe psychotherapy, medication, and education on healthy eating. Severe cases where the patient's life is in danger will require immediate hospitalization.
